OMG!

Postby Duoae » Wed Nov 24, 2004 5:38 pm

WOW! What can i say? I know i've been away and haven't been reading the comics here, let alone commenting on them in this forum..... but OMG! I just got my commission through the post today. I mean, WOW! If you want more money for it then please let me know! I received the "best" picture i have ever seen as well as the rest of the studio antithesis comics.

You can bet on me to be your die hard fan overseas. I will always support you guys. I don't care about time of arrival (i thank you from the bottom of my heart for the extras) but i am also an artist at heart and know that time is the most expensive commodity when you are doing work - Not the physical aspects such as paper and pens.

I've been following you since stacie joined.... maybe even before that. But definately since stacie cheered me up that once, long ago.

Anyway, i've got to get a frame for that work. Any advice on preparing a picture for long-term exposure to air, sunlight and constant "ahhs"?

:)
Bah.... really?

Dear Duoae,

Glad you got the package allright, and that you liked what was inside!
Truth be told, I had an incredible amount of fun doing the commission - I started one (very) late night at animeIowa (around 3AM, I think, while half-watching an episode of Gravitation (which series I later got seriously addicted to) ). It also gave me a good chance to do some illustration work - most of this semester has been taken up with various design projects, most notably from my rather demanding class, and I ache to do visual stuff that is more than just a couple of simple, minimalist, elegant, whatever, lines & blobs.

As for how to properly display a picture - there's plenty of good, inexpensive, pre-made picture frames around (the whole deal, glass plate included). Decide how much margin you want around the illustration (I prefer between 1-2 inches for my displays), pick a frame that can hold the picture + matte. Putting together (assuming somebody else cut down the matte, or you got a pre-cut one), is usually easy - details depend on the exact kind of frame you get.

If you want to go more custom (but far more expensive), any decent art store will either do the framing for you by itself or direct you to a competent frame shop. If you really, really want to preserve the artwork, they'll seal it and put it behind special gallery-quality glass. I did this treatment recently for a couple of watercolors painted by my great-grandmother, and they came out looking really beautiful and professional, but then again, the size of the artwork was non-standard and didn't play well with pre-built frames.

Anyhow, thanks again for your support - I'm so happy that it worked out well for everybody!

Cheers,
-Maciek
