Scooped

When Gwen said, in this strip, that she got scooped, it reminded me of this PHD comic strip (click on "next" a couple of times to see how it continues).
I wonder if Gwen had the same reaction as the PHD hero.. :)

I think BYOB shares a lot of the irony in PHD.

Oh, and I like the idea of the dream sequence. Although it is strange that 01 has an ECG line he can walk on.. does it mean he has a heart?

Hah! Thanks for the PhD comic link :)

The dream sequence is fun to draw. I have one more page currently completed (awaiting toning and captions) and another that's in rough pencils. After that, it's another 8 pages of real-world (thumbnailed!) and then... we're done with Issue 2 of byob!

cheers,

Did you know about PhD before, or I actually introduced it to you? I think I've been following it for 2 years or more.. although I didn't look in the archives yet... (and didn't look in Penny Arcade's archives either. So much material!)

I wouldn't mind having Gwen in my dream sequence.. although I understand that I'm not the only human competing for her..

Actually, the getting scooped comes from real world experience (not mine thankfully). In my own lab, I saw it happen to a grad student, it completely broadsided her and her advisor. And more recently, one of our post docs got scooped. The research I'm currently assisting on is really cool cutting edge stuff, which will either be submitted for publication in a month, or we'll get scooped. Ah, academia.
