So...where do you like to draw?

Postby Ellie Vyle » Mon Aug 21, 2006 12:10 pm

Well, I have two drawing modes. Brainstorming mode, and trying-to-fricking-accomplish-something mode. Brainstorming mode goes on at artnight most of the time, because with all the activity going on it's very hard to concentrate on keeping my line steady or the image steady in my head long enough to draw it. But if I did ignore the going ons during artnight, I would be missing alot of great inspiration and possible ideas, so I try to sketch and still be social. (<---it's hard!)

But then I need silence to actually finish a drawing. (<---that part is hard to find the time to do ^_^) One of the hardest things I've ever had to do was do commissions during Anime Iowa at the artist alley. ^^; I perfere to be curled up on the couch with a lamp over my shoulder, and some hot chocolate within reach. XD

Okay, so where do you like drawing?

I've been trying to teach myself to be adaptable (but I wonder how much that's actually complicating things, rather than helping). I think one of my ideal situations would be with other people, relatively close and remaining communicative. Otherwise I seem to drop back into a mode where I focus too hard on one particular item in a picture, as opposed to the whole thing. The social interactivity doesn't hurt, either. :)

Though I can see how talking can be distracting... especially when trying to be creative. More machine-like tasks (outlining, sketching a character face, etc.) seem to work fine for me in public though.

Social art-ing sure can be fun. Seems like a lot of work to still be effectively creating and drawing, though.

I really wish I could create a masterpiece while holding a conversation with someone, but hell, I can't stir boil an egg and talk at the phone.

I suppose if you understand your limits, you'd be able to accommodate for them. Like, if you're in a busy room, and you know you can't draw, then at least you know to put your pencil down and enjoy talking or doing something else. On the other hand, it's always good to test your limits and try to get better.

You're right about the mechanical parts of a drawing being good to do in a public place. That's what I try to bring to group arting outings. ^_^ It's okay to ink a page that's already laid out, but to lay it out in a busy area is always disaseterous! XD Us poor artist...look what we have to endure for our craft...

hehe, well, when there is enough art time, i find the normal social notes do tend to calm down and just having other people around kinda ties me to one place and keeps me off the xbox.

I should be doing more art up at my art desk, but i've been doing a lot of it on tray tables and in the dining room this summer.

I also like going to coffee shops, there it's generally calmer and while i'm around people, and fresh yummy coffee, it's not really a social thing, i have a table and can just concentrate on getthing things done while i listen to podcasts or music on my ipod. there are a lot of comic podcasts that i find inspiring to listen to while i draw.

I find it really hard to plant myself down at something designated as an "art area".... apparently you do too, Stacie? :D

Though staying off those darn videogames. What -can- be done about that, anyhow?

See, my theory is that Photoshop needs to incorporate a Super Meter and a Health Bar.

First. I disagree with you strongly! :D

Second. Stacie's been telling you to do that for weeks now.

EDIT: Meeting at Escape last night for art night worked out surprisingly well.
